During the class discussion about the first chapter of Virginia; I came to the conclusion that King James is the author because he was the one speaking. From my understanding the audience is the people from the first and second colonies that want to rule in Virginia. The tone of this writing is authoritative and persuasive because it is very straight forward and gives a lot of information about the plan for two cities/colonies. I gathered that the purpose of the first chapter of Virginia is to persuade the successors about creating Virginia with two cities. Ethos: I believe that the ethics of this writing is authority; King James is authoritative because he and the successors want the land to build a new colony of their own. Pathos: All the successors in the first chapter of Virginia would be the characters. The successors are credible because most people looked to them as honest and trust worthy. Logos: There was a lot of logical persuasion in the reading because that was basically the purpose of writing this; to persuade others to agree to the division of Virginia into two "cities."
